The project sought to create 6 rural eco-retreats to provide sustainable holiday accommodation within a wet woodland. The site is naturally attractive, located in a peaceful part of the countryside, and comprises a sensitive wildlife habitat.
The application was prepared in collaboration with Cornwall Environmental Consultants and with Ecospace Studios providing the designs. Solutions were needed to demonstrate sensitivity to the natural asset. Some of the challenges included protection of trees and biodiversity, as well as lighting plans and providing safe sewage disposal throughout the complex of freshwater lakes and ponds.
The accommodation was planned to complement this natural environment with sustainable designs including high levels of energy efficiently.
GOLAY Planning took a leading role and supporting documents where prepared and collated to ensure a fully robust application, capably showing the benefits of the development, whilst also proving there would be no environmental harm.
Working with Cornwall Council’s planning officers, the application received good support during the public consultation and was duly approved. One of the six lodges has already been constructed and is available for tourists to enjoy now.
